You could do a college course, which would teach you some of the skills and knowledge you need in this job. Relevant subjects include:

  • Level 1 Certificate in Customer Service
  • Level 2 Diploma in Customer Service
  • 2 or fewer GCSEs at grades 3 to 1 (D to G), or equivalent, for a level 1 course
  • 2 or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 3 (A* to D), or equivalent, for a level 2 course
  • Apprenticeship

    You may be able to get into this job through a customer services practitioner intermediate apprenticeship.

    The Post Office has a selection process that includes an online questionnaire to test your accuracy and number skills, followed by a telephone interview. If you pass these tests you'll then be invited to attend a face-to-face interview.

    Your day-to-day duties could include:

    • selling financial products and services to meet targets
    • selling stamps and dealing with letters and parcels
    • paying out pensions and benefits
    • accepting bill payments
    • dealing with vehicle registrations and car tax
    • checking passport and driving licence applications
    • selling travel insurance and foreign currency
    • making sure the books balance at the end of the day
