Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) assessors support and assess vocational qualifications, helping trainees meet standards.

between 8am and 6pm managing your own hours

How To Become a Qcf Assessor

You can get into this job through:

  • a college course
  • an apprenticeship

College / University

You'll need industry experience and a minimum of a level 3 qualification in the job area you plan to assess. You'll also need an assessing qualification, for example:

  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment - for assessing in the workplace
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally-Related Achievement - for assessing outside the workplace
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement - for assessing in the workplace and outside the workplace
  • 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, for a level 3 course
  • Apprenticeship

    You can do a level 4 assessor coach higher apprenticeship.

    Skills And Knowledge

    You'll need:

    Day To Day Tasks

    You may:

    • plan and deliver vocational training programmes and workshops
    • observe and assess candidates in their workplace
    • interview candidates and examine their portfolios of evidence
    • provide feedback and offer advice
    • sign off the award when all requirements are met
    • keep records of candidates' progress
    • attend meetings with other assessors
    • work closely with training staff and candidates' managers

    Working Environment

    You could work at a client's business or in an office.

    Career Path & Progression

    With relevant experience and qualifications you could progress to lead an assessor team, move into further education teaching or become a training manager.

    You could also work as an internal or external verifier, checking the work of assessors and training centres.
