This unique course aims to produce informed and skilled practitioners with the knowledge and skills to enter the healthcare arena with confidence. Complementary healthcare encompasses a wide range of practices including reflexology, aromatherapy and therapeutic massage. This foundation degree aims to produce informed and skilled complementary healthcare practitioners. The practical skills that you develop will be supported by a comprehensive theoretical knowledge of each therapy. The course has been developed to cover many different aspects of healthcare in such a way that practical skills are balanced with comprehensive training in the underpinning knowledge relating to the therapy being studied. **WHAT WILL YOU STUDY?** The course runs over two days a week and includes a weekly clinic to practise your skills in a clinical setting at the College salons. You will focus on three main therapies: body massage, reflexology and aromatherapy. You will also study a variety of subjects to support your work as a complementary therapist including nutrition, business, and professional practice. In the second year there is a 50-hour work placement based in a healthcare setting. You will develop a portfolio of reflective practice over the two years of the course. The course will equip you with a range of experiences, qualifications and practical skills sought by employers or required for successful self-employment. Complementary therapists work in a variety of environments including hospitals, hospices, health and in the community services for people with additional needs. On graduation, you have the option to apply to continue your training by undertaking a further year of study through Top-up Honours Degree at the University of Brighton or other institutions. **WHAT CAN YOU DO AFTER THIS COURSE?** The course will equip you with a range of experiences, qualifications and practical skills sought by employers or required for successful self-employment.
