Course Summary

This course will provide you with the critical, analytical powers and design skills to adapt and respond to the fast changing world of communication. The course is designed to enable you to develop as a Graphic Designer with a skillset which will allow you to work within a digital environment. The dynamics of the group will encourage you to acquire a range of transferable skills, which will enable you to operate autonomously or as part of a team. We deliver projects that explore conceptual ideas and encourage the development of craft, both physically and digitally. We offer the use of the wide range of facilities that the College has to offer in combination with digital apparatus.

Course Details - Modules

Modules include; design and creative thinking for interactivity, motion graphic design, typographic studies, design for branding and print design. Illustration is welcomed and a student can develop these skills alongside the course. Students are encouraged to use a broad approach to media and materials including the use of 3D and various printmaking techniques (eg etching, lino, drypoint, collograph, silk screen). There will be a variety of workshops that will introduce you to the print and 3D studios as well as workshops that generate ideas with hands on application.

Course Details – Assessment Method

The assessment is at unit level. Once you have achieved the required number and combination of units you will gain the qualification. (Grades for those units will be listed). Work is assessed against a set of learning outcomes for the unit and also against a set of assessment criteria. Each unit will be graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
