**Overview**
This intensely practical programme offers a career path to the dynamic and rapidly changing world of the professional journalist. On this course you will receive a grounding in the storytelling and production skills of the digital age, enabling you to work across TV, radio, print, social media and online platforms.
**About This Course**
The programme teaches core general skills such as researching, writing, video editing, audio skills, camera skills, interviewing, news package production, court reporting, longer-form programme making and website production. You will develop an understanding of media law and ethics, including defamation, copyright, legal constraints and media regulation. (It is a BJTC requirement that you must pass all law assessments in years one and two to proceed to the following stages of the course.)
You will complete 15 days of assessed industry placement as an essential part of your course.
You will also participate in at least 15 ‘Newsdays,’ (days of newsroom production) in both years 2 and 3, closely mirroring practice within professional broadcast or online newsrooms.
The University is developing a new broadcast centre in the heart of Norwich. This will be equipped with TV and Radio studios, and an ‘electronic newsroom’, closely modelled on modern professional practice. It is based in the former studios of Radio Broadland and Heart Radio. Much of the teaching, and all the practical activities for this course, will be based there, putting your journalistic development at the centre of this attractive and newsworthy city. You will be taught by lecturers with extensive experience of journalism and broadcasting.
Some modules will be taught on campus.
