The MSci course combines Bachelors and Masters' level modules of Mathematical Biology into an integrated degree. There are many benefits to undertaking the MSci such as to develop a deeper knowledge and to increase your career prospects.
Mathematicians and biologists have a long history of working together. The discipline applies mathematical techniques and computational methods to address problems in biology.
You'll learn about the critical role maths plays in making sense of the natural world and learn to apply it. For example, equations or formulas can predict or describe natural occurrences such as cell growth in tumours or organism behavioural patterns.
During the first year you'll spend two thirds of your time studying life science modules to give you the biological background. You'll also learn about university-level maths.
In your final year, you'll study more advanced areas such as dynamical systems and stochastic processes. It also includes a year-long personal project.
Our staff get to know each student personally and offer support where necessary. For example, we run the "Maths Base'' which is a drop-in facility for students across the University.
We have a strong reputation for research in Life Sciences and for the Mathematical Biology Research Group. You will be taught by leading research active academics.
You will also be able to join DUMaS (Dundee University Maths Society), an active society open to all students studying Mathematics or Mathematical Biology.
