Course Summary

Applied physics uses methods and principles of physics to help people solve technological problems, usually in an industrial context. Compared to theoretical physics, applied physics is a more hands-on course, bridging the gap between physics and mechanical engineering. Applied physicists use physics, or conduct physics research, to develop new technologies to solve engineering problems. This often requires thinking 'outside the box', using your skills in physics to understand the problem at hand. We'll teach you fundamental skills including quantum mechanics, relativity, nuclear and particle physics, and electrodynamics. You will consolidate the taught elements with laboratory-based practical classes. You will develop transferable skills and leadership potential. You'll gain confidence to think on your feet by working independently but also effectively as part of a team.
