Course Summary

This programme focuses on the underpinning engineering concepts that contribute to current industrial practices in Automation and Manufacturing Engineering. The programme provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience using our state-of-the-art laboratories whilst consolidating knowledge through the delivery of interactive theory sessions. Our purpose-built Engineering laboratories house a wide range of industry standard training equipment including Pneumatics, Mechatronics, Robotics, PLC's, Fluid Processing and a unique Industry 4.0 'Factory of the Future' training system enabling the study and assessment of the full range of automation concepts. Artificial Intelligence, big data and analytics, cybersecurity and augmented reality will be explored.

Year 1 - Introduction to Robotics; Mathematics for Engineers; Computing for Engineers; CAD and Technical Drawing; Professional & Workshop Skills; Statics and Dynamics; Electricity & Electromagnetism; Electrical and Electronic Technology Year 2 - Further Mathematics for Engineers; Advanced Thermofluids; Analogue Electronics; Solid Body Mechanics; Electrical Power and Machines; Control Systems; Design Engineering; Mechatronics

Course Details – Assessment Method

The programme has a predominantly practical focus for many of the modules with an integrated learning approach of lectures and workshop-based tutorials to develop student understanding of theoretical concepts with hands on learning experience. Students will have access to the purpose-built Engineering laboratories to undertake practical sessions. Students will visit relevant industrial sites and work placements will ensure students are supported in gaining relevant vocational experience
