Course Summary

Learn the theory and practice behind the fascinating and influential world of journalism, while diversifying your skillset by studying Media as a joint honours course. You will be taught by a team of experienced subject experts with a range of relevant professional, industry and creative expertise. You will have the opportunity to: - Benefit from DMU’s strong links with local media partners including BBC Radio Leicester, community media organisations and Leicester’s independent arts and cinema complex, Phoenix Cinema. These close links can provide opportunities for work experience in real-world settings and cultural connections alongside your studies. - Contribute to DMU’s own student media group Demon Media, with the chance to produce content for multimedia platforms including a magazine, radio station, YouTube channel and website. - Develop your practical and professional skills in our dedicated newsroom and access our creative technology studios, including editing suites, TV and radio studios, dark rooms, blue and green screen studios and video production laboratories. - Expand your horizons with our international experience programme DMU Global. Students have gained insight into the rapidly changing world of newspapers at the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong and learnt about the art of conspiracy by delving into media archives in New York. Our Communication, Cultural and Media Studies ranked joint first in the UK for the proportion of its research outputs rated as ‘world leading’ by the latest Research Excellence Framework (2014). You can also study the following courses with Journalism: Creative Writing; English; Film Studies; International Relations; and Politics.
