Plus, a range of ecosystems and habitats that no other university can offer.  Our course - designed by professional zoologists in consultation with wildlife trusts, consultants and Government bodies will boost your hands-on skills and teach you everything you need to become a professional in the field. - **Foundation year:** You'll build a firm foundation in working with data, biology, chemistry and essential academic skills, in preparation for the core Zoology programme - **Year 1:** You'll start by gaining a broad view of zoological topics, including molecular and cellular biology, animal form and function, ecology and conservation practice which involves visiting the full range of habitats in the region in search of wildlife. - **Year 2:** Develop professional-standard survey and research techniques which you put into practice during a fieldwork module, currently delivered in West Africa (where your project can add to the knowledge of some of the world's rarest species and help conserve them). - **Year 3:** You'll conduct a year-long research project, which can be a practical project utilising the skills you've developed during the course and can be focussed on the species of most interest to you. **Why Choose University of Cumbria** If you want to become a zoologist, then what better place than surrounded by the unique and ecologically diverse habitats of the Lake District, the Pennines and the Solway Firth as your outdoor classroom? Foundation year - Compulsory Modules: Essential University Skills 1, Essential Biology, Scientific Investigation, Essential University Skills 2, Essential Chemistry, Environmental Sciences. Year one - Compulsory Modules: Vertebrate Zoology, Invertebrate Zoology, Ecology for Zoologists, Animal Form and Function, Animal Conservation Practice, Core Zoology. Year two - Compulsory Modules: Exploring Research, Zoological Monitoring Techniques, Animal Behaviour, Evolution and Biogeography, British Wildlife, Applied Zoology. Year three - Compulsory Modules: Dissertation, Professional Skills in Zoology, Behavioural Ecology. Optional Modules (Subject to availability and demand): Entomology and Parasitology, Behavioural Applications for Conservation, Population and Community Ecology.
