This course will prepare you for a career as a midwife as defined in the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC 2019) Standards for Pre-registration Midwifery Education. You'll develop a sound knowledge of relevant anatomy, physiology and pathology, together with a deep understanding of the psycho-social context of childbirth. Plus, we'll help you develop key self-awareness skills to evaluate your influence on clients, making you into an effective investigator, critical user of evidence and an excellent communicator. And, a practitioner who places women at the centre of care through a holistic approach that respects individual needs. The ability to travel will be a major factor of the course-please be aware of this when you apply.

Course Details - Modules

Year one: Fundamentals of Midwifery, Biological Basis to Normal Childbirth, Public Health in a Maternity Context, Fundamentals of Professional Practice, Developing Professional Graduate Skills for Health and Social Care Practitioners. Students exiting at this point with 120 credits at Level 4 would receive a CertHE. Year two: Developing Midwifery Practice - Responding to Challenges, Contemporary Holistic Midwifery in a Global Context, Complexity in Maternity Care, Using Evidence to Support Practice, Working with Others. Students exiting at this point with 120 credits at Level 4 and 120 at Level 5 would receive a Dip HE. Year three: Preparing for Autonomous Midwifery Practice, Emergencies in Childbirth, Examination of the Newborn, Qualificatory Practice Unit for Examination of the Newborn, Using Evidence to Evaluate Practice, Professional Practice in Context.
