This is a multi-disciplinary programme, which offers an exciting array of modules and provides opportunities for critical engagement with contemporary debates around inequality, crime, justice, psychology, mental health, regulation, and social control. We aim not only to give you a solid understanding of the key theories, concepts and methods in the fields of criminology, psychology and social justice, but also encourage you to become critical and active thinkers in the world more broadly. You will develop a critical understanding of how the criminal justice system operates and engage in lively debates as well as conduct theoretical analysis. Students registered on the programme will gain free student membership to the British Society of Criminology giving you access to regular e-bulletins, conferences and information on criminological events and news. Careers and further study: This programme will develop your skills and equip you to work autonomously for a successful career in sectors including the criminal justice system, public services, social welfare, social justice, and within the human rights sector. Graduates will be well equipped to progress into postgraduate study upon completion of this degree course. Students have the option of progression to the University of Roehampton’s MA Criminology and Criminal Justice programme after completion (subject to entry criteria).

Students will be studying a suite of modules in each year of study including – Year 1 (Level 4): • Introduction to Psychology • The Sociological Imagination • Crime and Criminal Justice • Identity, Difference and Belonging • The Construction of Childhood • Psychosocial Explanations of Criminal Behaviour Year 2 (Level 5): • Folk Devils and Moral Panics • Crimes of the Powerful • Volunteering and Professional Development • Research Methods • The City Real and Imagined • Global Perspectives in Criminology Year 3 (Level 6): • Globalisation and Multiculturism • Political Violence • Clinical and Cultural Studies of Trauma • Beyond Prison • Dissertation (40 credit module) Note modules are subject to approval.

You will be assessed on the learning outcomes for each module over the academic year. Assessments including coursework, presentations, academic blogging, essays, case studies, exams and a research project.
