Course Summary

If you dream of being a fashion designer but don't yet have the portfolio to join our three-year degree, this four-year BA (Hons) Fashion Design course will bridge the gap. This course allows you to gain a broad experience of the different areas and methods of Fashion Design before moving on to your in-depth study. You’ll explore personal development, experimentation and group working methods as you develop skills in research, fashion drawing, 2D and 3D design development, mixed media (CAD) and theoretical approaches. With access to the latest technology, including a Gerber suite for computerised pattern development, you'll master all the skills you need to make it in fashion. As you study, you’ll be nurtured by a team of professional design staff with a wide range of industry experience. We pride ourselves on having no specific house style, so you’ll have the freedom to establish your own design identity, supported by a community of like-minded peers. As part of the course, you’ll be encouraged to tackle briefs from well-known companies such as Reiss, Warehouse and Tommy Hilfiger, and be given the chance to show off your work at high-profile international events. You’ll also enter your work in prestigious competitions; previous students have achieved success at Graduate Fashion Week, and many other national and international fashion design contests. Based at a campus that’s right on London’s doorstep, you’ll benefit from our extensive industry connections to help you secure work experience opportunities and enhance your career prospects.

Course Details - Modules

In Year 1, you'll place emphasis on developing the core skills and understanding of Fashion Design, introducing you to the basic techniques to help you develop and communicate your design ideas and then translate these through to product outcomes. If you opt to complete a professional practice year, this will take place in year three. You will undertake a placement within the creative industries to further develop your skills and CV. While on your Professional Practice Year, you will be required to pay a reduced tuition fee for that year. This fee will be determined using government funding regulations. Based on current regulations, we expect this to be a maximum of 20% of the tuition fee rate that you are charged for your second year of study. You will also incur additional travel and accommodation costs during this year. The University will provide you with further advice and guidance about this as you approach your Professional Practice Year.
