Our BA (Hons) Drawing course provides you with practical knowledge of methods and materials across a wide range of drawing contexts, including drawing as sculpture, narrative drawing, drawing as performance and drawing from observation and invention. You’ll be encouraged to question and experiment with your ideas of what drawing can be, using research, peer collaboration and creation, deepening your understanding to develop an ambitious personal practice. The drawing department at OCA is very open to wherever each student journey may lead. We are proud that the diversity of our student body correlates to a diversity of approaches to drawing.

This degree has three levels (HE4, HE5, HE6), each comprising 120 credits. HE4 - This level comprises two core units and one elective unit. At this level, the emphasis will be on the acquisition of skills and good working practice. You will be introduced to other’s work through directed and self lead research, and will be encouraged to reflect upon your learning journey. HE5 - This level comprises two core units. At this level, your personal relationship to your practice will develop significantly through experimentation and critical reflection. You will also gain skills in academic research with a view to developing an understanding of the contexts in which you are operating. HE6 - This level comprises three core units. At this final level, you will begin the transition from self motivated student to independent artist/practitioner. You will produce a significant graduating body of work and complementary contextual research output both of which you will design yourself with the support of your titor. You will also develop a personally tailored strategy for sustaining your practice post graduation. You will be supported to stage a graduating show in line with your personal practice strategy, for example a gallery show, a collaborative project, an installation in a rural or domestic environment or anything else that suits you and the work.
