Course Summary

Equivalent to the final year of an undergraduate degree, this BA (Hons) Business Innovation & Management (top-up) course enables you to build upon an existing qualification such as a foundation degree or an HND. Taught at the Business School for the Creative Industries, you’ll join us at level 6 with your previous knowledge and accredited learning, achieving a greater level of independence with self-managed research, study and practice. In the Marketing Strategy and Planning unit, you’ll develop knowledge and understanding of tactical decision-making, while learning how to capture and create customer value at a strategic level. As ethical behaviour and corporate social responsibility come to inform the way consumers think about businesses, we introduce the concept of business ethics and develop your ability to examine their relevance to business objectives and responsibilities. In the Entrepreneurship and Creativity unit, you’ll get an overall insight into enterprise as you investigate the factors that underpin successful entrepreneurial activities and explore issues related to individuals, as well as small and family businesses. Your final project will allow you to develop your independent enquiry skills as you complete a sustained research investigation into an area you’re interested in. Overall, the course will develop your ability to weigh up ethical and intellectual considerations and build on your commitment to becoming a business professional. Throughout the year, the focus will be on learning through activities that enable you to practice, exhibit and develop your confidence in enterprise.

Standard Qualification Requirements

The majority of our courses require a portfolio and we consider the strength of our applicants’ portfolios, as well as their grades. This means that whilst we have a standard entry criteria of 112 UCAS tariff points (64 UCAS points for 4 year courses) and a minimum of four GCSE passes (or equivalent) at grade A*-C and/or 4-9 including English, this should be used as a guide to what we accept. The average tariff that our students achieve is significantly higher than this standard entry criteria but we also occasionally make offers which are lower to students with a strong portfolio, and those who have faced difficulties that have affected their performance and who were expected to achieve higher results. We welcome applicants who are currently studying or have completed A-Levels, Extended Diplomas (BTEC and UAL), Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, Access to Higher Education, Scottish Highers, and IB Diploma. We will consider other Level 3 qualifications on an individual basis and we are happy to accept applicants with a combination of Level 3 qualifications. You can also check how many tariff points you have achieved using the UCAS Tariff calculator: https://www.ucas.com/ucas/tariff-calculator
