Course Summary

If you want to develop your business skills, have a change of career or climb the promotion ladder, then the Business Management FdA will equip you with the key business and management topics to enable you to have a broader understanding of what it takes to have a successful career in business management. The Business Management FD is a challenging vocational course that will provide ideal preparation for anyone planning to pursue a career in the business sector, and will support the development of those already working in a business environment. The course will give you an understanding of a broad range of business concepts and techniques, giving you the ability and confidence to effectively communicate and apply skills in any business environment. This course provides focussed and relevant training to allow complementary development of academic and work skills, to support employability needs both locally and nationally. The course includes Work-Related Learning modules that will enable you to complete an assignment based on your own place of work. If you do not have a permanent job, then Voluntary Work or Work Shadowing or case study research for each Work Related Learning module is acceptable. The place of work should be external to College and you will be responsible for organising your placement. You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, role plays and presentations, which will be supported through group discussion, presentations by external expert practitioners, individual and group tasks and independent reading and writing. Alongside the contact hours, you will be expected to undertake 10-12 hours (pro-rata for part-time study) of independent study each week, such as reading journal articles and books, undertaking research and preparing for assessments. Some of the modules are shared with other courses within the Business suite, allowing students to share experience and best practices across a wide range of Businesses. The average class size for this course is 8-10. You will also receive an individual tutorial session each semester. Your independent study is supported by the excellent Learning Hub at the Aireville Campus in addition to the College’s Specialist Support Centre. The Business Management FdA is a nationally recognised qualification in its own right and is equal to the first two years of a full BA (Hons) course. Once you complete your FdA, you may then move on to the Business Management in the Service Sector BA (Hons) for a further year.
