Course Summary

You’ll join the final year of the 3-year BA degree course, so you can expect a challenging but exhilarating time. Alongside the theory you’ll learn, you’ll be asked to consider and experience very practical aspects of hospitality and tourism. We’ll connect you with industry and employers, bring the world of work into the classroom, and provide opportunities which will enrich your CV. This course has been designed to meet the needs of today’s hospitality and tourism employers, so you’ll graduate with the skills and knowledge they’re looking for. Our close relationships with the professional associations and trade bodies for these industries also help to ensure the course curriculum is always relevant. London offers many opportunities to experience world-famous hotels and attractions, whether as part of your course or your own independent research. We will arrange for you to mix with employers (such as The Ritz London and City Cruises), and you’ll hear from guest speakers such as travel or wine companies. There are also opportunities to work on real projects for employers, and you could choose to do a work placement overseas. Thanks to our lecturers’ connections, you might find yourself in a live online debate with employers or students in other countries. Key course benefits; - We are ranked number 2 out of 57 universities in the UK who teach this subject, so our graduates have high ‘employer appeal’. - Your tutors have all come from industry, where they gained extensive international management experience. This enables them to contextualise the theory they teach. - Central London offers a fantastic place in which to study, with some of the world’s leading hotels, tour operators, airports and attractions right on your doorstep. - You will benefit from a small student cohort, with lots of opportunities for individual contact and personalised learning. You and your tutors will get to know each other well. - You’ll have opportunities for study visits to leading businesses, events and exhibitions in the UK and overseas. - Internships, and the chance to network with employers during your course, could lead to employment offers when you graduate. - Besides your industry-specific skills, this course will also develop your ‘softer’ skills – such as self-reliance; interpersonal, leadership and communication skills; logical approaches to work; creative problem-solving; and business acumen. These are highly transferable across all industries, and would be useful if you decide to branch out into other sectors. - Career-oriented activities will help you learn to make effective job applications and to present yourself well in writing (on your CV) and in person (at interview or a networking event).
