Course Summary

The course will provide practical experiences to prepare students to be effective digital marketing practitioners who can bring competitive advantages to the global workplace. The course will enable students to develop intercultural competence and autonomous lifelong learning for an international management career in a digital marketing labour market. The focus on practical marketing, digital marketing skills development, and emerging themes in digital marketing, will enable students to gain hands-on experience in fast-developing digital marketing techniques. A wide range of organisations in the private sector, public sector, and non-profit sector are increasingly seeking to use digital technologies, online marketing and social media to reach and engage with their customers. Graduates will also find opportunities in specialist marketing agencies and companies providing digital marketing services to organisations (B2B). Graduates of the course would also be well-equipped to engage in enterprise and entrepreneurship, establishing their own companies specialising in digital marketing. The course offers students a range of opportunities based around a core of modules fundamental to understanding the application of digital marketing concepts and theories to a variety of international business contexts. The modules are designed to provide students with a range of cognitive, practical and transferable skills appropriate to the management roles they are likely to fulfil upon completion of this course. The course is distinctive in its use of the state of the art digital communications lab (DigiComm Lab). The lab is equipped with industry-relevant software which allows students to produce materials and digital artefacts for their assessments and portfolio. The opportunity to evidence practical applications of theory will further enhance students’ employability skills, confidence and competences in readiness for the graduate job market. Course-based assessment will be used where appropriate. Guest speakers from industry will contribute to the course, on a range of the latest specialist topics in Digital Marketing. There will also be a focus on practical marketing, digital marketing skills development, and emerging themes in digital marketing. Coventry University’s Marketing courses are amongst the most internationalised in the UK, with many modules having an international or intercultural context; and with opportunities to participate in international field trips, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) projects, and a range of international experiences offered by the Centre for Global Engagement (CGE). The internationalisation of the course is supported by the use of international teaching materials, case studies, and examples.
