Course Summary

The BA (Hons) Business Enterprise and Innovation Management (Top up) is a distinctive course that provides an opportunity for students to develop the business enterprising skills required in the global workplace. A distinctive feature of the course is its applied nature, which will enable students to gain hands-on experience in assessing the feasibility of business opportunities, in leading and managing innovation and entrepreneurial change and in developing sustainable entrepreneurial business strategies. The modules will be taught by academic staff who also have industry experience in leading and managing innovation in enterprises. Another distinctive feature of the course is its affiliation to the International Centre for Transformational Entrepreneurship (ICTE). ICTE sits within the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL) but it is also tasked with the development of entrepreneurial activity across the Coventry University Group. ICTE’s focus on transformational entrepreneurship blends a wide range of services and products that encompass education, research and support to assist students, staff and businesses to be more entrepreneurial. Through the Centre, students will be offered extra-curricular enterprising activities such as, access to the FabLab space with 3-D printing facilities as well as start-up support from the Coventry University Social Enterprises CIC (CUSE) team. Graduates of the course will be enterprising and creative leaders with an international outlook and have a passion for innovation and sustainability. Through the modules, students will critically reflect ‘about’ enterprise and innovation through the exploration of contemporary issues, which enhances the curriculum through a focus on Research Enriched Learning. There is a key focus on enterprise education (QAA 2018), which aims to produce learners with the mind-set and skills to come up with ideas that make a difference in response to identified needs and shortfalls, and the ability to act on them (Advance HE 2019). Students will therefore have opportunities to ‘enact’ their ideas into action through a guided enterprise and innovation applied project. Finally, there is also an emphasis on reflection and metacognition to enable students to develop the enterprising behaviours (e.g. taking initiative, taking responsibility); attitudes (e.g. pro-active, resilient and curious) and competencies (e.g. creative problem solvers, leaders, influencers) that they need for the global workplace.
