The HNC Acting programme, in partnership with the world-famous Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, aims to produce proactive professional actors. The Stephen Joseph Theatre (SJT) is a professional producing theatre, was Britain’s first theatre in the round, and has premiered over 80 of the plays of acclaimed playwright Sir Alan Ayckbourn. In this unique partnership, CU Scarborough students will work with SJT professionals at points throughout the programme - including mentoring, observation of professional rehearsals, and participation onstage in a professionally-directed piece for theatre. Students completing the course will leave with a full suite of skills, experiences and contacts that will allow them to be fully industry-ready. **Key course benefits;** * Upon completion of this course, you will receive a qualification awarded by Coventry University, which is ranked 13th best university in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2019. Course Details - Modules

The BA (Hons) Acting degree will offer development of acting skills in parallel with the skills in entrepreneurship required of a self-sufficient professional actor. It aims to produce professionals who have the necessary qualities and skills for employment in the acting industry in its widest sense. Students of the course will be: *Able to create effective performances in a range of live and recorded media *Confident self-promoters in terms of understanding their own talents and capabilities and communicating these to others both in and outside of audition situations *Flexible in adapting their skills to a range of associated industries e.g. drama facilitation with young people, creating and leading workshops for corporate industry *Prepared industry practitioners who have an understanding of how to create, market and produce their own work. Experienced in the workings of a professional working theatre, with informed knowledge of the producing theatre sector *Adept independent business people who understand the many ways they can create and be employed in the acting industry and related fields of work *Given the opportunity to develop links with universities in other countries. The course will be delivered in conjunction with Britain’s prestigious Stephen Joseph Theatre. This collaboration will facilitate high-level networking with industry professionals, and will ensure that the students’ learning and experience is embedded within the context of the real professional theatre industry. The Access to HE Diploma to include 15 Level 3 credits at Merit. Plus GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics at grade 4 / C or above.
