Course Summary

This programme is designed in conjunction with industry experts. It equips you with a range of skills and knowledge to allow you to find employment in a range of jobs within the sport and leisure sector, as well as the rapidly growing health and fitness industry. It is delivered through a variety of formal lectures, small group seminars and practical sessions. Assessment is through written assignments, presentations, practical and theoretical exams, and a research project in the second year. You will be assessed working on real-life projects, such as coaching sport in local primary and secondary schools or developing sport and physical activity in the wider community. You may also carry out fitness testing on athletes from local sports clubs. All lecturing staff are qualified to degree level and many to postgraduate level, as well as being involved in research and professional development in the areas of sports science and injuries, and coaching and sports psychology. A range of additional qualifications to help make you more employable may also be available to study, alongside the programme should you choose to do so. These will incur additional costs, take place during weekends and evenings, and may include: YMCA Level 2 Gym Instructor, YMCA Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructor, NGB and the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard. Cornwall College offers a wide variety of facilities; fully equipped gyms, 3G all-weather pitch, sports hall, indoor climbing wall, fitness testing facilities; Watt bike, blood lactate sampling, VO2 max and many more. With the Cornish coastline only minutes down the road, it offers us a stunning natural environment in which to deliver session. At least 32 points must be at A2 level when considered alongside AS levels.
