Course Summary

Our exciting and vibrant new FdA Photography programme, is built upon the years of existing good practice to be found in the HE Arts and Media Department at Cornwall College, Camborne. Photography is a popular, challenging, and competitive subject. As such our new programme has been designed to ensure our graduates are tenacious, flexible and excited by the new opportunities that are available in photography and are fully aware of the niches that can be carved within the creative industries. To ensure a dynamic HE student experience, the new FdA Photography students will be located within the existing BA (Hons)/FdA Art & Design Practice studio spaces, sharing a range of facilities including a HE Common Room. However the Photography students will also enjoy their own, subject specific teaching areas, including a photography studio and dark room facilities. Five of the eleven modules on the FdA Photography will be co-taught with the existing FdA Art & Design Practice course. This will include the Contextual Studies and Professional Practice Modules in both years. Thus allowing for savings to be made across both programmes in terms of shared timetabling, good practice, staffing & resources. The other six practical modules on the FdA Photography programme will be delivered separately, using subject specific lecturers. Smaller teaching groups are a positive element of the programme, ensuring all students receive the expert attention that they need to become successful photographers. However the programme cohorts will be large enough for students to collaborate with fellow students and undertake group projects. Opportunities will exist to support students with interests from photo-journalism, to contemporary fashion, to develop specialisms in the use of either digital or conventional photographic technology. Photography specific visits and trips will take part throughout the programme as part of the curriculum. Location photography shoots in Cornwall, in both countryside and coastal regions, will also form part of the programme. Upon completion of the FdA Photography, students can choose to progress on to the BA (Hons) Art & Design Practice (Level 6) Top- Up programme at Cornwall College, Camborne or subject to interview they may choose to progress on to a level 6 photographic, art or design course at Falmouth University, University of Plymouth or further afield.
