This programme is fully embedded in the golf industry and taught exclusively on golf resorts. It has been created after significant work directly with key industry members - in particular, the GCMA, and Colt Mackenzie, McNair (CMM) - identifying the best industry practice and reflecting the need for work-ready graduates of the highest calibre.
Within the programme, you will develop an understanding of all aspects of golf-club management - delivered over a 22-week teaching profile, with at least ten additional weeks in working in the field during the summer term, or the end-of term breaks.
Alongside this, students will be able to gain real hands-on experience within the golf club that they are based at (this work may be paid or unpaid), during term-time. During the winter term, the programme will move to southern Europe for a minimum of two weeks - allowing the students to understand the differing models and expectations of golf clubs with Europe. The overarching aim of this programme is to provide students with the skills required to manage a golf club, through the understanding of theory, development of knowledge and experience of best practice. Embedding within the programme the ten core proficiencies of golf-club management as identified and distilled by the GCMA.
The programme aims to:
Develop systematic understanding and analytical, forwarding-thinking skills in a golf-club management context
Ensure that graduates of the programme meet the expectations of employers as competent golf managers who can critically apply scientific understanding and management principles to their practice, predict the outcomes of their actions, and generate policy and management initiatives
Provide students with a range of practical skills and competencies relevant to a career as a golf manager including the ability to communicate via traditional and digital means
Enable graduates to acquire and demonstrate a range of academic and study skills to allow them to proceed to Level 7 learning, and to continue with life-long learning
Provide opportunity for students to practice and develop business and management skills within, and outside, of the formal programme; with significant access to golf resorts, for the development of themselves as practitioners within the industry
