If you know you have potential but want support before starting a degree in Chemistry or Pharmacy or a chemistry related degree, then this course could be perfect for you. FdSc Chemical Science is a new Foundation Degree where you'll acquire and demonstrate core knowledge and understanding in the field of chemistry. During the first year, FdSc Chemical Sciences you'll explore the basics of Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. and Cell Biology – all key areas for anyone who’s aspiring to work within the fields of chemistry. The first year will also provide you with the opportunity to start developing your professional skillset in Key Professional Skills module. In your final year, you’ll expand your existing knowledge of Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Sciences in Practice. You’ll also get the option of learning more in-depth about Environmental Chemistry or Nuclear Chemistry. In addition, you will have allocated time to complete your Individual Research Project. You will learn through practical examples, demonstrations and active practice in workshops, lectures, laboratory experimentation, guest lectures, work placements and visits. Work based learning is rooted in making the course unique and more employable as you reflect on current practices and consider continuous development. You will undertake a broad range of assessments to build a portfolio of experiences from writing academic papers showcasing the industry specific skills you have developed. This programme was designed and consulted with industry professionals in order to maximise your further study and future employment opportunities. The range of assessments will offer students the chance to build a portfolio of experiences including experimental design, data collection, analysis and reporting, communication techniques, and industry specific skills such as quality assurance. FdSc Chemical Science is a fundamental subject for careers in the science and health sectors. With a FdSc Degree in Chemical you'll be well prepared for roles in medical research field, hospital pharmacies, or in the pharmaceutical industry. There are many other routes you can take with this programme and further study can lead to a career as a microbiologist, pharmacy technician and research scientist to name a few.
