Course Summary
The Foundation course provides a pathway to BEng and MEng degree courses in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering. If you wish to study Mechanical or Aeronautical BEng/MEng degrees at City, University of London, but do not satisfy the entry requirements, Foundation courses can be the first year of a four-year BEng, or a five-year MEng, degree. The overall aim of the programme is to provide a well-rounded education and also specialised training for a professional career in the industries underpinned by the mechanical and aeronautical engineering disciplines. This will include the research, development, design, production, commissioning and management aspects of those industries.

The Foundation year includes the following key modules:
- Mechanics
- Computing & IT
- Communication & Study Skills
- Mathematics
- Physics.
Approximately half your time is spent on scheduled learning, half on independent learning.
Course Details – Assessment Method
You will be assessed using a variety of methods including examinations, coursework and practical skills.
The approximate percentage of the course assessment, based on 2018/19 entry is as follows:
50% written, 50% coursework.

28 points total, including Higher Level Mathematics at grade 4 OR 28 points total, including Higher Level Physics/Biology/Chemistry at grade 4 and Standard Level Mathematics at grade 5.
DDM in Engineering (First teaching Sept 2016 RQF ONLY) with minimum grade M in units 1 - Engineering Principles, 7 - Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and 8 - Further Engineering Mathematics. Candidates must also have a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics and Science/Physics.
