The Foundation course provides a pathway to BEng and MEng degree courses in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. If you wish to study for Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Biomedical Engineering degrees at City, University of London, but do not satisfy the entry requirements,
Foundation courses can be the first year of a four year BEng (or five year MEng) degree. The emphasis in the Foundation courses is on developing your study skills and ability in core engineering subjects.
Course Details - Modules
The foundation year includes the following key modules:
- Electrical and Electronic Principles
- Electrical Science
- Mathematics
- C Programming
- Study Skills
- Electronic Hardware and Software Experiments.
Plus one option from:
- Computer Hardware
- Biomedical Engineering.
- Approximately half your time is spent on scheduled learning, half on independent learning."
Course Details – Assessment Method
You will be assessed using a variety of methods, including:
Written assignments and Coursework, including essays: these may take the form of case studies in which you will be expected to relate your essay to a particular service user or as support for another assessment such as a poster presentation
Written examinations: including short answer questions, multiple choice questions, calculations, scenario-based.

28 points total, including Higher Level Mathematics at grade 4 OR 28 points total, including Higher Level Physics/Biology/Chemistry at grade 4 and Standard Level Mathematics at grade 5.
DDM in Engineering (First teaching Sept 2016 RQF ONLY) with minimum grade M in units 1 - Engineering Principles, 7 - Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and 8 - Further Engineering Mathematics. Candidates must also have a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics and Science/Physics.
