This degree provides a thorough understanding of economic theory, with a focus on the practical link between theory and real-world application. Course Details - Modules

The first year lays the analytical and conceptual foundations of economics with examples of the real-world application of economics to important fundamental problems. Year one is made up of 120 credits which consists of eight core modules. - 1st year core modules: - Introduction to macroeconomics (15 credits) - Introduction to microeconomics (15 credits) - Topics in applied macroeconomics (15 credits) - Topics in applied microeconomics (15 credits) - Data Analysis 1 & 2 (30 credits) - Mathematics for Economists (post-'A' Level) 1 & 2 (30 credits). In year 2 you can pick a pathway between Economics and Economics and Econometrics. The Econometrics pathway allows students to specialize in quantitative skills. Year two consists of modules that make up 120 credits. The second year allows you to develop your core skills through intermediate-level courses. You can also begin to specialise in financial topics such as History of Economic thought, Nations and Firm in the Global Economy or Macroeconomics 2nd year Economics pathway Core modules: - Intermediate macroeconomics 1 & 2 (30 credits) - Intermediate microeconomics 1 & 2 (30 credits) - Econometrics 1 (15 credits) - History of Economic Thought 2nd year Economics and Econometrics pathway core modules: - Intermediate macroeconomics 1 & 2 (30 credits) - Intermediate microeconomics 1 &2 ( 30 credits) - Econometrics 1 & 2 (15 credits) (If you did not take A-level Math's you need to take Post GCSE Maths as a core elective module on this pathway) Elective modules (pick 3): - Macroeconomics 2 - Econometrics - Maths (Post-GCSE 3) - International Trade - Mathematical Methods - Global Financial Markets - National and Firms in the Global Economy - Money and Banking The final year provides you with an opportunity to apply your knowledge of core tools to a supervised research project in financial economics. The final year core modules examine the financial aspect of the course while the electives allow further specialisation. You may take a supervised project in economics (30 credits), plus four core 15-credit modules and 30 credits from the list of elective modules.
