Course Summary

This programme will prepare you for working as a professional in sport coaching and related industries/professions, as well as developing your scientific knowledge and practical coaching skills. At the heart of the programme is a commitment to improving your coaching practice through an understanding of how to deliver excellent coaching sessions. In the first year you will deliver a number of coaching sessions to your peer group and in year two this coaching practice is developed through supported coaching placements and experiential, on-site learning. The third year is designed to further inform and develop your understanding of the sport coaching process and focuses on coach education, coach development and the relationship between sport coaching and some of the ancillary areas of expertise necessary for excellence (i.e. psychology, performance, and support systems for elite level sport).

English language requirements

Test Grade AdditionalDetails
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 With no element lower than 5.5
PTE Academic 43.0

If you are an international student and English is not your first language, you can begin your 3-year degree programme at IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.
