Course Summary

Our British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) endorsed Sport and Exercise Science programme is built on strong foundations as we were one of the first institutions in the UK to develop a sports related degree programme. The current programme allows for specialisation in either Sport Performance or Physical Activity for Health. The courses at Chichester are taught by well-qualified staff, further enhanced by a strong research and consultancy profile with many staff having achieved professional accreditation from BASES. Sport and exercise is perhaps the one area of sport that has expanded most rapidly over the last decade with the introduction of Government funding for Sport Science Support Services on the one hand and public health and well-being on the other. The establishment of UK Sport and National/ Regional Centres of Excellence and the Department of Health’s National Support Teams has established a growing demand for well-qualified sport and exercise scientists. The legacy recent Olympic Games has highlighted UK Sport as a world leader. With experience of delivering sport science support to Olympic medallists and health interventions, we at Chichester are well placed to provide a significant contribution to athlete services and the health legacy in the UK. Following the strong foundation gained in Year One, you will decide whether to specialise in Sport Performance or Physical Activity for Health and your courses will reflect differing perspectives although some commonality will remain. **BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science (Sport Performance)** Our Sport Performance themed pathway provides you with the skills and knowledge required to assess critically the physiological, biomechanical and psychological characteristics of the athlete and to apply these skills to performance enhancement. We have a strong tradition of applied sports science delivery and this transfers to our hands-on laboratory-based course. Career opportunities within these sectors are rapidly on the increase as we move towards the next Olympic Games. **BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science (Physical Activity for Health)** Our Physical Activity for Health themed pathway has a strong practical approach, from both an academic and industry perspective, with the inclusion of industry recognised qualifications. We give you the opportunity to work with diverse populations in the physical activity, exercise and health sectors. Career opportunities within these sectors are rapidly on the increase as a result of the Government’s drive to help people live longer, by reducing the burden of ill health associated with unhealthy lifestyle factors such as physical inactivity, poor diet and obesity.

IELTS (Academic) 5.5
PTE Academic 43.0

If you are an international student and English is not your first language, you can begin your 3-year degree programme at IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.
