Our Politics programme introduces you to the political nature of society at international, national and local levels. This degree will furnish you with the knowledge and analytical skills to understand developments in contemporary politics. You will study both theoretical and empirical aspects of politics, including international relations, political economy, terrorism, political theory and area studies. With this degree, you will become an authority in the study of politics and, with our work placement module, enhance your employability. The degree provides a wide variety of modules to choose from, so you will always find something you are interested in, taught by academics who are experts in their fields.

This three years course (full-time) is structured around four thematic strands of study: British Politics, International Politics, Defence and Security, Political Thought and Practice. Meanwhile, students receive a solid grounding in the theoretical approaches and research methods in Politics, and will have the opportunity to complete an individual research project under the personal supervision of experienced researchers. This modular structure offers sufficient flexibility to allow students to take additional vocational modules, such as the work placement, and to spend a semester or two at one of our partner universities abroad.

The standard entry requirement for this programme is IELTS 6.0 with no element lower than 5.5. However, you can begin your 3-year degree programme with IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.
