The University of Chichester Conservatoire has one of the largest and liveliest music and musical theatre departments in the UK with a community of over 400 student performers. Our facilities include computerised recording and media studios, well equipped practice rooms and an acoustically superb performance venue. You will get to showcase public performances with professional production teams for regional tours, major art festivals and to create and premiere new commissions. The degree offers you a combination of a focus on developing your practical skills in vocal or instrumental performance with either a range of dance performance styles or the acting skills of a musical theatre practitioner. Combining these skills in a way that suits you as an individual creates an opportunity to position yourself with a very strong offer for future performance work. You’ll also develop a broader knowledge of music and its history, and an understanding of musical theatre and how this contributes to and reflects culture. You’ll acquire a toolkit of vocational knowledge in work based modules designed to help you to work in a variety of roles, and to develop real understanding of the challenges of work in a professional environment.

The standard entry requirement for this programme is IELTS 6.0 with no element lower than 5.5. However, you can begin your 3-year degree programme with IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.
