Course Summary

We recognise that many Art students want to specialise from the outset of their degree, focusing the development of skills in one clear discipline area. Print is a specialist discipline area and also workshop practice at levels four and five. You will study: technical instruction on different print processes, screen printing, intaglio, block printing and mono printing. Digital processes are also integrated into the area, linking Photoshop and other digital media with the range of print methods. Printmaking is a strong discipline within our programme, enabling you to become a specialist in traditional print media and to extend your work into more contemporary electronic processes. Your work will be guided by a range of approaches that give professional technical instruction alongside personal initiative and independent learning. Lectures and seminars along with the peer group critique in the studio, support independent, self-directed work. Students will learn to create their own negotiated pattern of work as they move towards an exhibition for their degree show in their final year. You will have the opportunity to visit a major international city at an affordable cost to study the museums, galleries and culture. Recent cities have included Berlin, Barcelona, Venice and Madrid. Trips to museums and galleries in London and other cities take place throughout the academic year. We offer you the opportunity to exhibit your work outside of the artOne building. A series of selected work is hung in the general public spaces and provides a professional showcase for your work. As well as these public spaces there is the opportunity to show work in the University’s Otter Gallery. Main Studio and Workshop Skills and Activities will include: Silkscreen; Etching; Relief print; Block printing; Photo based processes.

IELTS (Academic) 5.5
PTE Academic 43.0

If you are an international student and English is not your first language, you can begin your 3-year degree programme with IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.
