Course Summary

The programme strikes a balance between the academic context for events, and an appreciation of the applied operational elements of event management. There is an ‘applied’ approach to learning and teaching, via direct engagement with the event industry. In doing so, the programme takes advantage of the enviable opportunities presented by the scale, wealth and diversity of events in the local and regional area including the Chichester Festivities, Arundel Festival, Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival. Specific elements of the teaching programme are delivered by event management professionals. A parallel event volunteering programme, run in conjunction with local event providers, also provides you with an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of event management. We offer a supportive learning environment and we take great pride in the quality of support that we provide to you. Emphasis is given to smaller group sessions, and modules are designed to be active and experiential so that the skills and knowledge you develop can be implemented in a realistic setting. The first year of the programme shares much in common with other business and management programmes, and is designed to provide a solid underpinning in business-based subjects. During the second and final years of the programme, you will be able to demonstrate your acquired knowledge and skills through the conceptual planning, design and implementation of two major events.

English language requirements

Test Grade AdditionalDetails
IELTS (Academic) 6.0
PTE Academic 50.0

The standard entry requirement for this programme is IELTS 6.0 with no element lower than 5.5. However, you can begin your 3-year degree programme with IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.
