This is a new Higher National Diploma (HND) and is an exciting opportunity for learners to be part of the future in Cloud technology. The The Level 4 HNC (Year 1) gives students a sound knowledge of the fundamentals of this specialist area of computing, alongside training in different approaches to problem solving. The Level 5 HND (Year 2) provides a specialist focus, which is on Cyber Security. This is designed to support progression into the workplace in a specific cloud role. Pearson have collaborated with Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) through its AWS Educate initiative, to develop BTEC Higher National qualifications at levels 4 and 5 in Cloud Computing. The new integrated offering addresses the skills gap in the growing cloud computing field. All materials will be provided, some of which will be hosted by AWS cloud systems. This course is available to anyone who has a keen interest in computing and cloud systems with a focus on cyber security. Ideally, applicants will have foundation knowledge in many areas of computing. There is a prerequisite knowledge, which could be either from personal experience, relevant industry experience, or from formalised academic studies. This will be assessed on an individual basis through a formal interview as part of your application process. This career-focused qualification will enable learners to directly enter employment in the cloud computing industry or offer an opportunity to progress to a university degree. They will benefit companies by providing access to a uniquely skilled pool of cloud computing talent, whilst creating greater opportunities for graduates to be employed by the world’s leading companies. Additionally to this, completing learners could also pursue a degree level (level 6) apprenticeship following this pathway of study.

The six core units are: •Unit 1: Cloud Fundamentals •Unit 2: Networking in the Cloud •Unit 3: Security in the Cloud •Unit 4: Programming •Unit 5: Database Design and Development in the Cloud •Unit 6: Deploying and Operating in the Cloud (Pearson Set) Two further non-core units: •Unit 8: Professional Practice •Unit 10: Computer Systems Architecture Specific Units (Year 2 HND):- Cyber Security pathway The five core units are: •Unit 12: Cloud Computing Research Project (Pearson Set) •Unit 13: Cloud Architecture Design •Unit 16: Information Security Management in the Cloud •Unit 17: Applied Security in the Cloud - (Specialist unit) •Unit 18: Applied Cryptography in the Cloud - (Specialist unit) Two further non-core units: •Unit 15: Cloud Systems Integration •Unit 20: Application Development, Testing and Debugging

Course Details – Assessment Method

The course will cover a range of units in the first year, and then specialise in the second year. All materials will be provided, some of which will be hosted by AWS cloud systems. Assessment will be covered by written reports, practical activities (some of which will be hosted in the Cloud by AWS), presentations, team work and other methods. There are no exams. However, learners who successfully complete year 1 will be eligible to apply for and study the AWS qualification in Cloud Fundamentals. This additional qualification is external to this study programme, and may involve an additional fee. At Level 4, students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the cloud sector through six core units, including a unit assessed through a Pearson-set assignment. To complete the Level 4, 8 units must be achieved.

Standard Qualification Requirements

Students are required to have an overall C grade in a recognised GCE Programme. Must include a subject which demonstrates prior Computing knowledge. For example, GCE Ad. L3 in Computing, Maths.

P(C+). Please refer to Chichester College website for further details.

Students are required to have an overall Merit in a recognised Level 3 Computing Course. For example, NED in Computing or T-Level in Digital Support Services.

Applicants would need to demonstrate knowledge of Computing at L3 Advanced Level if Access Diploma is not in Computing. All applications from Mature students will be taken on individual merit.
