The BSc Sports Coaching course will enable you to improve your knowledge of the core disciplines that underpin sports coaching. Together with a comprehensive academic framework, the course has a strong vocational emphasis, with modules that offer you the opportunity to engage on a weekly basis with local sport organisations, and partake in a range of activities to ensure theoretical aspects studied are applied in a practical context.

Course Details – Assessment Method

A wide range of assessment methods are used, ranging from formal examinations through to presentations, practicals and coursework. The teaching and assessment methods we use throughout the course also encourage the development of skills that have been recognised as important by the lead industry bodies. Practical delivery skills form part of the assessment in Years 1 and 2. Furthermore, you will be required to complete a coaching placement in Years 2 and 3.

Access course including 45 level 3 credits


Appropriate modern apprenticeship, work experience, and free-standing qualifications that form part of the post-16 qualifications framework will also be considered. Substantive work experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications. Mature students (21 years of age or over) without evidence of the above qualifications but with relevant experience, will be required to demonstrate enthusiasm and aptitude for higher level study. In some cases potential students will be invited to do so by attending an informal initial interview. Candidates for part-time study should ideally demonstrate a minimum of six hours per week employment/volunteering in an appropriate sports coaching setting, and have the written support of their manager for the integration of their studies with their workplace activities. Prior to admission to this course, you will be required to obtain a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check through the University, for which there will be charge. The cost of the disclosure is currently £55:00. Applicants are strongly advised to subscribe to the Disclosure Update Service, payable directly to the DBS and currently costing £13:00. This may also need to be repeated at appropriate periods during the course of study and continued programme registration is subject to this process.
