Mental health nursing is a specialist professional course that enables you to make a unique contribution to the health and wellbeing of people of all ages who experience, or may be at risk of developing, mental health problems. Mental health nursing focuses on promoting recovery and improving outcomes for people experiencing mental health problems, based on the philosophy of holistic person-centred care, as well as challenging the stigma, discrimination and inequality often associated with mental illness problems.

Theory is assessed via essays, presentation, multiple-choice questionnaire, unseen written examination, and projects. Practice is assessed in the clinical environment by experienced, qualified practitioners using a Practice Assessment Record, which sets out the skills, attitudes and knowledge of practice to be measured.

Access to HE Diploma, to include 45 credits at Level 3, 30 of which must be at Merit or above


Applicants must have GCSE Maths and English at grade C (grade 4) or above, or equivalent. A Level General Studies accepted; Welsh Baccalaureate accepted alongside A Levels/BTEC/OCRs. FETAC Level 5 (Major Award) with all 8 subjects at Merit. Please note that applicants must also have evidence of recent study within the last 5 years.
