Chester is an exciting place to study History – a Roman and medieval town with a key role in the Civil War that remains the capital of Cheshire.
At Chester, the study of history ranges from the fall of Rome to Cold War America. You can explore turning points in history, the Vikings, the Crusades, the Consumer Revolution, the English Civil War, the Holocaust, and minorities and migration in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Department currently works with the Grosvenor Museum in Chester, and currently has use of the Cheshire Record Office and the Cheshire Military Museum archives.

You will be assessed through a variety of written work, as well as individual and group presentations. Written work assignments include book reviews, literature reviews, document analyses, essays, research dissertations, ranging from 500 words to 2000 words to 8000 words, and produced as coursework or in closed or open examinations.
