Course Summary

Teaching takes place at the Parkgate Road Campus. The Creative Writing course gives you the opportunity to develop the skills and techniques to become a creative writer in poetry, drama and fiction (flashes, short stories, novels), and also to write critically. You will learn how your own work fits into the wider world of literature and contemporary publishing. In addition, the study and practice of Creative Writing enables you to develop a number of transferable skills that are highly relevant to many different areas of employment. The overarching aim of the Journalism course is to implement an explicitly developmental approach to the teaching of students undertaking it. This means beginning with getting to grips with the underlying principles of journalism practice and theory, before gradually being given greater freedom as you progress to explore how to develop your own unique interests and talents in the context of theory and practice.
