Teaching takes place at the Parkgate Road Campus and the Kingsway Buildings.
The Creative Writing course gives you the opportunity to develop the skills and techniques to become a creative writer in poetry, drama and fiction (flashes, short stories, novels), and also to write critically. You will learn how your own work fits into the wider world of literature and contemporary publishing. In addition, the study and practice of Creative Writing enables you to develop a number of transferable skills that are highly relevant to many different areas of employment.
We will encourage you to creatively engage with traditional forms of theatre, as well as beyond the confines of a traditional theatre space. We want you to enjoy the challenges of creating work in urban and rural spaces, community centres and schools, and through digital media. Scholars/practitioners and visiting artists may be involved in teaching this course, all of whom share a passion for the discipline and are actively involved with the professional industry.

Course Details – Assessment Method
For Creative Writing, assessment varies from module to module: you will compile portfolios of creative writing; write critical and factual prose; and also do a range of other kinds of assessed work. There are no formal written exams in Creative Writing.
For Drama and Theatre Studies, assessment combines both practical presentations and performances, and associated oral assessments in which you are invited to discuss your work with the examiners. Written assessment takes the form of traditional academic essays rather than unseen examinations, assessment also includes report writing and reflective journals.
