Course Summary

Chemical engineers develop innovative processes to turn raw materials into useful products like fuels, plastics, foods and medicines. They are also leading efforts to make the modern world a cleaner, safer and more sustainable place to live. On this course you will learn the key set of chemical engineering principles and understand how to use them for a huge range of applications, such as eliminating harmful emissions of greenhouse gases or turning living cells into tiny factories for making life-saving drugs. **The University of Chester is the only university in the UK to achieve 100% overall student satisfaction in the subject area of Chemical, Process and Energy Engineering in the recent 2017 National Student Survey.** Our dedicated science and technology campus, Thornton Science Park, is situated at the heart of the North West chemical industries, adjacent to one of the largest oil refineries in the UK, with a wide range of engineering firms based on the campus and in the surrounding area. All of our students complete work placements in Year 2 of their degrees, most with nearby engineering firms or within research groups at the University, although some have been as far afield as Norway. Foundation Year courses have been designed for students who do not have the necessary academic qualifications needed to enter directly into the first year of a degree but who have the ability and commitment to do so. The Foundation Year may also be of interest to mature students who have been out of formal education for an extended period of time or who wish to change their academic field of study.
