**Course Overview** - Aiming for a senior role in a specialist fire safety company? Fire Safety and Risk Management develops your knowledge of design and management solutions that reduce fire risk. - Our specialist degree has been developed in response to reforms in fire safety law. These now emphasise the consideration of fire risk during the design, construction and occupation of a building. - You’ll develop your knowledge of integrated design and management solutions aimed at reducing fire risk. You’ll know how to ensure that appropriate active, passive and fire safety management systems are in place to protect people, property and the environment if a fire does occur. - You’ll have access to new, purpose-built fire laboratories. These are supported by state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics facilities, and analytical and material characterisation facilities for fire chemistry and fire safety engineering. **Why study with us** - You’ll be taught by research active staff from the fields of fire safety engineering and fire chemistry as well as fire professionals. - There’s an opportunity to take part in international exchange visits with our partners in the Middle East and Hong Kong. - Benefit from the latest high-quality equipment available in our new £35m Engineering Innovation Centre.

Year 1 Modules: Introduction to Combustion and Fire, Safety and Fire Law, Energy Transfer and Thermodynamics, Engineering Design Practice, Skills for Science and Engineering, Buildings Materials and Fire, Engineering Analysis 1. Year 2 Compulsory Modules: Fluid Dynamics of Fires, Fire Safety Management and Legislation, Accidents and Catastrophes, Safety Health and Environment, Project Management. Year 2 Optional Modules: Structures Materials and Fire, EITHER Fire and the Built Environment OR Fire Risk Assessment in Complex, Non-residential Buildings, Fire Risk Assessment in Complex Residential Buildings, Industrial Experience. Year 3 Modules: Engineering Dissertation, Enclosure Fire Dynamics, Fire Protection Engineering, Hazards and Risk Management, Fire Investigation, Strategic Risk Decision Making
