Course Summary

If you want to develop your expertise in the field of fire safety management and are aiming for a senior role in the fire industry after graduation, then this top-up degree is ideal. Fire safety management is concerned with minimising the fire risk to life, property, business continuity and the environment throughout the life of a building. This course emphasises the development of management skills for fire safety as it relates to the context of the built environment. You will play a role in the management and leadership of teams involved in the provision of safe working environment and in the management of fire safety provision in organisations. Students are encouraged to seek summer placements within supporting fire industries and every effort is made to assist in this important aspect of development and service integration. International opportunities include travel and work placement with ‘Operation Florian’ which is a charitable organisation working to improve fire service infrastructures in countries where they are lacking. Recent deployments have been to Zimbabwe. There is the potential for international exchange visits with other universities or with international fire safety companies, especially construction-based companies. Some of our graduates have entered leading fire engineering consulting firms such as, Buro Happold, ARUP, Warrington Exova and various Fire and Rescue Services around the UK and internationally.
