Course Summary
**Course Overview**
- Study at one of only a few universities to offer a BA in Counselling, Coaching and Psychological Interventions using three approaches to counselling and psychotherapy.
- We’re one of only a few places where you can study psychoanalytical, humanistic and cognitive behavioural approaches to counselling and psychotherapy.
- You’ll gain a solid grounding and transferable skills to work in counselling and psychotherapy in nursing, social work and probation, human resources, management or mediation.
- The course team includes staff who are active researchers in their field and a member of the BACP Professional Conduct Committee.

**Further Information**
- You’ll be able to take up a placement during Year 2 to help prepare you for the workplace. You’ll also experience some of the ways in which counselling and psychotherapy are delivered abroad, through an opportunity for international study.
- Our graduates work in a variety of fields. Some go on to train as counsellors and psychotherapists with a Postgraduate Diploma/MA in Integrative Psychotherapy (BACP Accredited), some work in Mental Health as Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs), and others train as registered nurses in mental health, general adult or work with children. There’s also an option to train to be a social worker, through an MA in Social Work.

- As part of the course you will have the opportunity to hear about the experiences of service users, carers, patients and public members via our community engagement and service user support groups (Comensus).

Year 1: Introduction to the Unconscious, Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, The Human Being in Context, Introduction to Person-Centred Counselling and Counselling Skills, Key Issues in Counselling & Psychotherapy, An elective module
Year 2: Development of the Unconscious in Britain, Counselling Perspectives on Mental Health, Intermediate Counselling Skills in Practice, Person-Centred Counselling Theory in Context, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – Skills and Interventions, The Research Process
Year 3: Psychoanalysis in Context, Enhanced Counselling Skills and Personal Development, Metacognitive Therapy and Theory, Integration and Contemporary Issues in Counselling and Psychotherapy, Dissertation. And one of: Personal Development, Expressive Art and Therapy, Solution Focussed Interventions
