**Course Overview** - Our Clinical Dental Technology degree is a unique and innovative clinical dental technology course, which will allow you to train as you will practice in the future, as part of the whole dental team. - The course gives you the opportunity to train as a clinical dental technician who can work within dental technology and primary care dentistry as a clinical dental technician. Primary care dentistry is delivered by the whole dental team, of which clinical dental technicians are an increasingly important part. - The structure of the course is exciting and innovative in that our BSc Clinical Dental Technology, BSc Dental Therapy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses share common modules. Both Clinical Dental Technician students and BDS students will learn clinical, technical and professional skills together during the course. - The University is already renowned for the depth of clinical experience that our current dentistry students gain during their training, which has resulted in a 100% graduate employment rate. **Why study with us** - This groundbreaking course is the first of its kind in the UK. - Dentistry at the University ranked 2nd in the UK and 1st in England for Student Satisfaction (Complete University Guide 2021). - As a student, you will have the opportunity to treat your own patients in our on-site Dental Clinic. **Further Information** - This programme has been provisionally accepted by the GDC Registrar. The decision as to the approval of a new programme for dental care professionals will not be made until the first cohort has completed their studies and examinations, or assessments, and the programme inspected by the GDC. The recommendations of the panel must then be considered by the Registrar. - We employ a number of teaching methods to teach you the various aspects of clinical dental technology. There is a great emphasis on clinical experience to develop clinical skills, initially by working on manikins in the dental clinic. Working with actors assists in the development of communication skills. Knowledge is developed by traditional lectures and tutorials as well as Problem Based Learning (PBL) where you work together to develop an integrated knowledge of how the body functions in Health and Disease. We use a variety of methods for assessment such as short answer, single best item and short note questions.

Standard Qualification Requirements

One A Level must be in Biology at grade B. This course not accept General Studies or Critical Thinking.

Pass Access Diploma with minimum of 21 Level 3 Credits with Merit and 24 Level 3 credits at Pass or above. Must include minimum of 12 level 3 credits in Biology related modules passed with Merit. ONLY considered alongside NVQ Level 3 Oral Health Care (Dental Nursing) or National Certificate in Dental Nursing or a registerable dental technology qualification.

Including Distinctions in 2 of the following units: Physiology of Human Body Systems Human Regulation and Reproduction Biological Molecules and Metabolic Pathways Genetics and Genetic Engineering Diseases and Infections Microbiology and Microbiological Techniques


NVQ Level 3 Oral Health Care (Dental Nursing) or National Certificate in Dental Nursing or a registerable dental technology qualification is acceptable for application in lieu of one A-level grade B; however Biology and another science are still required. 5 GCSEs at grade B/5 or above including Mathematics and English. All students whose first language is not English must have IELTS Score of 7.0 with no component mark less than 7.0 (or equivalent qualification) taken within the two years prior to the course start date
