The FdSc Equine Studies course includes practical instruction of the care and daily management of the horse and has a strong industry and business flavour. Students who successfully complete the Foundation Degree are automatically offered entry into the 2nd year of a suitable degree programme at Aberystwyth University. Course Details - Modules
In the first year you will study a range of core modules which will provide you with an excellent grounding in the subject, including equine business and industry, equine anatomy, breeding and stud management, animal science, and land use. You will gain practical skills in horsemastership, which you will build on during your second year, and implement during your compulsory 6 week period of work experience. In the second year you will study applied nutrition, exercise physiology, and applied animal behaviour and welfare, and you will learn how to analyse, budget and appraise a rural business. Optional modules in veterinary science, equitation, and equestrian event management will allow you to focus on those areas which are of particular interest to you. You will also become acquainted with the principles and practice of a range of basic quantitative and qualitative procedures of data analysis, coupled with an understanding of good research design and planning.
