Course Summary

This BSc (Hons) Virtual & Augmented Reality course will enable you to explore the ever-changing landscape of virtual and augmented reality, equipping you with the knowledge and strategic mindset to create new VR and AR applications and experiences. As you progress through the course, you will hone the skills that will allow you to explore and develop your own ideas, as well as understand the business and career opportunities that exist in the VR/AR and wider IT industries. You will learn the underlying Computer Science and Software Engineering fundamentals needed to develop real-time applications, together with essential UI / UX design principles. You will use different languages, including Python and C/C++, apply real-time graphics techniques, and program spatial audio systems to bring to life your immersive experiences. Through the exploration of human-computer interaction, you will learn how gestures can be used to create interactive experiences. You will also get practical knowledge in software project management, as well as the industry standard tools and techniques used to create VR and AR applications. The programme is industry focused, offering opportunities for industrial placements, and is designed to allow accreditation by the British Computer Society. Graduates will find a wide variety of career opportunities within the computer, IT and telecoms sector, as well as the majority of the other industrial sectors, including the digital/creative industries, financial and professional services, advanced manufacturing, engineering and management consultancy.
