Applied Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management
Cardiff Metropolitan University
Applied Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management
Course Summary
The BA (Hons) Applied Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management degree is the first of its kind in Wales. This degree is for those who want to innovate, challenge the status quo and create sustainable businesses of the future.
This is a practical degree which is built around innovative programme design developed and will be delivered by expertise in their field. Students will be provided with the theoretical underpinning of entrepreneurship and business management. Developing and equipping them with the key entrepreneurial traits required to operate effectively in the difficult landscape of business creation; such as resilience, opportunity recognition, creativity and vision. As well as the foundations of marketing, law, information technology and accounting.
Students will be encouraged to actively engage in business networking opportunities both within the university and within the local business community. To enable this, in the first year, each student will be allocated an entrepreneurial mentor from the local business community. Through this mentoring students will complete a number of activities where they will 'shadow' an entrepreneur, such as attending networking events. This opportunity will allow the student to fully immerse themselves in entrepreneurial life, observe the character traits of the entrepreneur and business operations.
In the second year students will start focusing on the development of their own start-up and at this time all students will be provided with desk space within the dedicated incubation facility for the programme. The start-up Lab will offer specialist start-up support, expertise and tools helping start-up businesses to innovate and grow within the first year of trading. The Start-up Lab will foster a co-working environment allowing for peer to peer learning with like-minded student entrepreneurs to help foster an environment of venture creation, collaboration and a community of co-working.
