Course Summary

The Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND in Policing will provide students with the generic knowledge, understanding and skills to enter employment within Policing, the wider public service sector or entry to Higher Education through a top up degree. Studying for this course will provide opportunities for students to learn a range of techniques and tools essential for successful performance in working life. It will help individuals to apply these skills at their workplace and build upon the knowledge they must have gained at the completion of the course. Those already employed will be able to use these attributes immediately at their work place and improvise their working practices. This course is made up of the following units: - Leadership in Policing - Crime Reduction and Community Policing - Initiative Skills - Government Interactions with the Police Service - Emergency Planning and the Police - Health and Safety Management in the Police Service - Counter Terrorism - Investigation into Armed Policing Additonal Qualifications - Level 3 Award in Education and Training (TBC) For Home and EU students, a loan from the Student Loans Company is available to support learners with fees if applied for. These fees cover the overall costs of the course, including sports kits, guest speakers, day trips and additional courses that will be run throughout the year. The Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND in Policing will provide students with the generic knowledge, understanding and skills to enter employment within Policing or entry to Higher Education through a top up degree. To join the BTEC Level 5 HND in Policing, you will need to show evidence that you have achieved successfully on a programme of sustained level 4 study and provide proof of certification and individual units completed. In addition you must have: • 5 GCSEs grades 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent. This must include GCSE English and Mathematics. You will have an active and keen interest in the Police and associated services and will have experience of being involved with the services or serving as a cadet etc. With this experience, you will be anticipating a career in the Police Service. The offer on the course is subject to the successful attendance of Welcome Event and Induction Day. Each project, activity or assignment that you complete will be assessed. These assessments indicate your level of performance and contribute to your final grade. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Assessment will be through practical and theoretical assignments
