Course Summary
This course provides a foundation of essential knowledge of theoretical and practical skills which enables students to progress into careers within Health and Social Care and beyond. This is an interesting and stimulating course which provides students with the opportunity to develop their understanding of professional practice.
The course will provide students the opportunity to learn more about a range of topics including; roles, responsibilities and professionalism, professional boundaries, communication, anatomy, physiology, pathology and disease along with measuring health and wellbeing. Study skills, such as academic writing and accessing research, are an integral aspect of the course in order to provide students with the foundations needed for further study.

Foundation Year- Academic Writing and Studying in Health and Social Care; Learning Development and using Information Communication Technology to present information; Developing skills for delivering Health and Social Care; Developing Professional Skills for Delivering Health and Social Care; Foundations in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Disease; Measuring Health and Wellbeing Year 1 - The Discovery of the Unconscious; Introduction to CBT; The Human Being in Context; Introduction to Counselling and Person-centred Counselling Skills; Key Issues in Counselling and Psychotherapy Years 2 (Preston) - Development of the Unconscious in Britain; Counselling Perspective on Mental Health; Intermediate Counselling Skills in Practice; Person-Centred Counselling Theory in Context; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - Skills and Interventions; The Research Process Year 3 (Preston) - Psychoanalysis in Context; Enhanced Counselling Skills and Personal Development; Metacognitive Therapy and Theory; Integration and Contemporary Issues in Counselling and Psychotherapy; Dissertation.
