Course Summary

During the course students are encouraged to share information, ideas, values and experiences, and develop problem-solving skills. They also undertake a variety of placements and field observations. This provides students with the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and enhance their employability skills. We have excellent links with a wide range of local employers, including Primary and Secondary Schools, Children's Residential Care Homes, Domestic Violence Centres, Early Years Settings, Pupil Referral Units and Family Support Services, providing students with the freedom to carry out work placements in environments related to their career choices. Years one and two are delivered by Burnley College, the final year is delivered by UCLan Preston.

Course Details - Modules

Modules include: The Social Construction of Childhood Communication and Social Media Skills in Social Care Children’s Services and Systems 1 Development Across the Lifespan Learning for Work in Children’s Services: Introduction Researching with Children and Young People Children’s Services and Systems 2 Safeguarding Children and Young People Diversity and Inclusive Practice with Children and Adults Learning for work in Children’s Services-Consolidation and Continuing Development. Year 3 is taught at UCLan.

Course Details – Assessment Method

The key learning outcomes for this Degree are assessed through a variety of methods including essays, content analysis, portfolio, poster presentations and workbooks. A research proposal and final-year dissertation are also part of the assessment.

General Studies accepted. BTEC Extended Diploma: A Distinction and two Merits GCSE: 5 at grade C/4 including Maths & English or equivalent Applicants can also gain direct access to the final year of this Degree by successfully completing the Foundation Degree in Children, Young People and their Services. Due to the interactions with children and vulnerable adults during this course, applicants are required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (formerly termed CRB). Applications from individuals with non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience and who can demonstrate the ability to cope with and benefit from degree-level studies, are welcome and these applicants will be interviewed.
